December 12 – Body Integration
This year, when did you feel the most integrated with your body? Did you have a moment where there wasn’t mind and body, but simply a cohesive YOU, alive and present?
(Author: Patrick Reynolds)
I’ve been sick this week, so when I saw this prompt yesterday, I just did not want to deal with thinking about my body. How’s that for anti-integration?
As much as I would like to have an experience of body, mind and soul being one in a vigorous physical way through exercise, the truth is it just happens less often than I would like.
I am intensely mental person, so even when it does happen, I usually push the physical sensations away to get through pain or discomfort. I’ll work on it this year, okay?
But in 2010, the moments I can best recall being whole, were in the Spring and Summer, after I cleaned up my room and created a little sanctuary for myself. I would retreat to the king size mattress thrown on the floor with a journal and my ipod.
I can remember the sounds of the seasons outside my windows, the way the warm sun felt as it was setting, the contrast of the cool air from the fan on my skin. I would write and then put music or a meditation on my ipod and just BE.
