“I didn’t know people could be so good . . .”

That was part of a message on my answering machine at work today.

Leave it to the people in really desperate times to inspire you.
And nearly cause you to burst into tears at work.
I’m usually much less likely to be so affected, but it’s been a long week.

Don’t be fooled; I’m not really that good,
but it’s gratifying to have people who are suffering find some joy
in the little you are able to do for them.

And I am realizing that you can have pain without suffering.
To suffer takes you out of the moment.
So, yes, I have had some pain recently,
but I am choosing to not suffer from it any longer.
